The Climb for Wilderness is a signature event. For the past 25 years, it was held annually at the Calgary Tower. In 2017 it will be held at the Bow Building with the goal of increasing public awareness of wilderness, wildlife and wild water in Alberta. The Climb for Wilderness provides learning opportunities combined with the athletic challenges of climbing 1188 stairs and supporting Alberta Wilderness Association with fundraising. The event attracts participants from aged 2 to 102 years old, with a diverse range of athletic ability. Climb for Wilderness is known as the Best Earth Day Event in western Canada and attracts more than 1000 individual participants and 150 volunteers annually.
Alberta Wilderness Association
Our vision for Alberta is to have a comprehensive network of protected wild areas. We believe in the value of a system that engages Albertans in decision-making processes, and we understand the importance of policies and laws that recognize the value of nature for its own sake. AWA, is the oldest wilderness conservation group in Alberta (since 1965), and has a proven history of being an effective, credible, and independent advocate for wildlands, wildwater, and wildlife.
