CLIMB FOR WILDERNESS
Climb for Wilderness is Alberta Wilderness Association’s annual Earth Day event. This year the event provided the unique opportunity to climb 1,204 stairs inside the Bow tower. There were displays to learn more about Alberta’s wilderness, wildlife and wild waters. Children’s activities and opportunities to learn about wildlife are an important part of the day. Everyone had a terrific time! As well outstanding prizes we awarded to fundraisers.
This is AWA’s signature event. The 2018 event was held at the Bow Building, following the success of 2017 at the same location. The previous 25 years events were held at the Calgary Tower. The goal of the Climb for Wilderness is to increase public awareness of wilderness, wildlife and wild water in Alberta combined with the athletic challenges of climbing 1,204 stairs and supporting Alberta Wilderness Association with fundraising. The event attracts participants from aged 2 to 102 years old, with a diverse range of athletic ability. Climb for Wilderness is known as the Best Earth Day Event in western Canada and attracts more than 1000 individual participants and 150 volunteers annually.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for this fun and challenging event. Each year, more than 100 volunteers are involved in the Climb for Wilderness event; from initial planning to cleaning up the last detail, weeks after the event is over. We are excited to have you join our enthusiastic team, and help us make this an extremely successful event for Alberta Wilderness Association.
In appreciation of your time, all volunteers receive a special volunteer Climb for Wilderness T-Shirt and an enjoyable experience in support of Alberta wilderness, wildlife and wild waters.
The Climb for Wilderness raises funds for the ongoing conservation work of AWA. Each volunteer’s participation means we will be able to create a greater awareness of wilderness in Alberta, how important it is to all of us, and how we can protect it for generations to come.
We are fortunate that our slate of volunteers is complete at this time; thank you to everyone who has volunteered. If you are interested in this event, please register and we will see you on the stairs!
